SHADOW OF THE MOUNTAIN

In the shadow of the mountain
Down the darkened mountainside
I beheld a fallen bird
I knelt down and held her as she died...

She was broken in my hands
I couldn't move myself at all
I could have wept forever and ever
The air grew colder and the sun had to fall...

By the time the fog was around us
The mountainside would not let me go
I lay beside the fallen bird
til inside and out came the snow...

Sometimes the sun shines down upon us
and you can see us from far down below
When wind is sighing, there is the crying
I lay there still with the snow....
