Passing Through The Void

by Ali Murray

/
1.
PASSING THROUGH THE VOID This is the construct of our time This is the reckoning of old We are dreamers of the afterlife Promises spoken to the young Tastes like honey on our tongue Bringing down the lonely satellite Sinking before our eyes... If we should fall beneath the birds If our songs are never heard If we're forced to shut the open door of our hearts I'll ride the dark horse through the night Hold my breath til morning light You can't hurt me anymore... I'm just passing through the void... passing through the void... passing through the void... passing through the void...
2.
Boy 03:53
BOY I love your sweet simplicity Smiling ocean wide for me A voice that drifts like warm summer breeze through the long and frigid arctic freeze... Lift me up from the deepest sea Sing me down from the highest tree Level me dead honestly All that matters is destined to be... They all pale right next to you Languishing in all they do I won't let them get near to you because you're all that I've got, it's true... Worry not, with fears we tread Hurry not, the years ahead Sorry not, the things we said For we're lost inside our heads... So it goes on and on On the last day of summer, you'll move to another Somewhere that keeps you protected and warm It goes on and on Through autumn and winter, the daylight gets dimmer and I'll always weather you just like a storm...
3.
SILENCE OF SPACE You said to me we'd go down in history but I didn't feel a thing I was many worlds away... On these northern roads, where the moon hangs sad and low a wasteland of greys and blues I was many worlds away... In the silence of space... In the silence of space... In the silence of space... In the silence of space... Wherever you are, whatever guiding star The heavy eyes on me while I am many worlds away In the silence of space... In the silence of space... In the silence of space... In the silence of space... No more cross to bear... No more cross to bear... No more cross to bear... No more cross to bear...

about

Once again, Ali Murray cements his deserved status as the King of Moorland Melancholy with these three tracks. They show almost the full range of styles at his disposal, from the Disintegration-era Cure-like chime of the guitars on the opening track, to a lushly produced, heartfelt folk ballad in "Boy," to the closer, which features elements of noise and ambient in the stew of atmospheric sounds. Close listens reveal many poetic insights in Murray's sincere, confessional lyrics as well. Yet another fine release by a major talent.

''Murray's breathy tenor drifts sadly and sweetly against an ethereal backdrop of sprawling dark noise, melancholic ambience and classical instrumentation that ebbs and flows within these beautiful reverb-laden dreamscapes. An incredible EP that's over far too quickly from one of the best undiscovered songwriters out there...'' - Fog Songs

''The loneliness, the isolation of mind...Three songs! Howls in the dark! Cries to the abyss!'' - Monolith Cocktail

''A demonstration of Murray’s ability to layer sounds without losing the gentle beauty that marks the best of his music.'' - Rosy Overdrive
